THIS GRADE II LISTED PROPERTY RECEIVED A FRESH NEW LOOK, AND MORE...

Situated on Bath's busy London Road, these three units overlook the River Avon to the rear. Although part of a Grade II listed Georgian terrace, the property had become derelict and Carter Hughes Davies was called upon to carry out a complete conversion. The run-down old bed shop became a vibrant retail photo studio and shop, with flats above and below.

A full architectural survey was carried out, with internal and external floor plans drawn up, along with a feasibility study. Scheme designs were created for both the planning and listed buildings authorities, and Carter Hughes Davies negotiated consent for the plans and then produced the working drawings and managed the entire refurbishment. This meant drawing up the contract specifications, administering the building contracts, putting together valuation reports and more.

A beautiful commercial restoration

While the commercial space on the ground floor was converted into a photo studio, the first floor, basement and sub-basement were all converted into comfortable, modern flats. New windows with sound-proofing were added to the front to block out the sound of traffic, while to the rear the concrete clad elevations were stripped back, with a beautiful new stone render applied to complement the beautiful view of the river below. The ceilings were replaced, and a new roof was added – all within listed building stipulations.

No-longer an eyesore, this re-imagined structure now adds colour to the local area.
